God’s Tears

So much rain the last few weeks-
The only explanation that comes to mind is
your tears,
how much you must be grieving
for all your children.
For the deaths,
the injuries,
the broken hearts,
the pain,
the numbness…

We have not seen many clear days
between the storms.
Just enough sunshine
to remind us
of what will come
when we are through with all the rain;
with crying,
mourning,                                                                                                          picking up the pieces.

We wait for flowers will grow,
leaves to sprout,
roots to become stronger.
We know that rain is more than
an expression of your grief.
It can cleanse the wildfires
that threaten to burn our land.
The rain –
your tears –
heavenly love pouring down
on earth,

washing evil away even as we cannot yet

see it.
